Journal of Clinical Oncology
Update 01-31-2008

A newly published paper in the Journal of Clinical Oncology describes results of a study of Aranesp in cancer patients not receiving chemotherapy or radiation therapy. The objective of the study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Aranesp for treating cancer patients with anemia. The results show no significant reduction in transfusions but reduced survival among patients receiving Aranesp.

However, read the accompanying editorial for a discussion of some of the limitations of the study and why the results may not be the same as might be obtained in a study conducted primarily in the U.S. and Western Europe.
